Torchy's Tacos

Infusing a little spice into a cult classic.

Client: Torchy's Tacos

Project Type: Website Redesign

Role: Lead Designer

Agency: T3

The Brand:

Torchy’s Tacos (or, Torchy’s for short) is a taco junkie’s dream. You can’t ask a true texan where to get the best tacos in town without he/she/they mentioning Torchy’s. Their queso is otherworldly and their brand is as sassy as it is playful. They are the epitome of a Cult Brand.

The Project:

Torchy’s approached T3 in June of 2018 in search of a partner to help them redesign their website. They wanted to modernize and reimagine their website to make it easier for consumers to find the menu, locations and order online.

The Challenge:

Torchy’s has 50+ locations and not two are alike. This creates an interesting hurdle when wanting to bring the in-store experience online.

The Solution:

An online experience that is as visually-abrasive and edgy as they are. Bold type. Store textures. Vintage illustrations. While the visual design is a bit chaotic, the user experience is not. The design is made of up multi-sized, modular components that fit together like a puzzle. Using color and form, we guide the users eye through the page with ease.cartoons. And, a lot of red.

Photoshoot:

Current photography as poorly shot and not consistent. While it wasn't in scope, we decided it would be best to take the time and reshoot the food.

Content Creation:

The client had limited assets to work with and there much of a budget for things so we had to come up with a lot of the content on our own.

Animation and Interactions:

Torchy's had a lot of personality, so it was vital that the design did too. While we had covered our bases in terms of visual design, we wanted to push the envelope even further. To do this we packed in animation every chance we got.

Seventeen Templates:

The site consisted of seventeen templates in total.
